UK Rocket To Victory - In The World Fireworks Championships Blackpool 2007!

Five fantastic free fireworks displays, four internationally renowned competitors, and one sparkling winner...

Jubilee Fireworks, representing the UK, have tonight been announced as the hottest of the four world-renowned pyrotechnical experts competing for the title of World Fireworks Champions Blackpool 2007.

They beat off blazing competition from Portugal's Pirotechnia Minhota, DW Fireworks from Canada, and Design Fireworks of Austria to lift the trophy.

Blackpool's Promenade has welcomed more than a quarter of a million spectators to the four heats of the event, held throughout this month, and the homegrown display was a clear favourite with the crowds.

Each week, visitors to the displays have been texting to register their vote for their favourite display, and a panel including a leading pyrotechnical expert have also been on hand to compare and critique each performance.

The Mayor of Blackpool, Cllr. Robert Wynne said:

"It was lots of fun to sit on the panel for the World Fireworks Championships this year, and I, and the rest of the judges, have thoroughly enjoyed each and every display.

"The skill and dedication of each competing team was clear to see in the magnificent shows that they have produced each week.

"The UK's entry was a clear favourite with the crowds, and I am pleased to announce that Jubilee Fireworks take home the trophy this year."

This Friday, 28 September it is the turn of another leading UK pyrotechnical team, Kimbolton Fireworks, to set the skies above the Illuminations alight in a blaze of sound and colour. As event co-ordinators, Kimbolton Fireworks are not competing for the title, but we can be sure their display will be one to rival that of their winning UK counterparts.
