Preston city centre's excellent shopping facilities have significantly grown during the last decade. With the major expansion of The Mall St George's Shopping Centre, the refurbishment of the Fishergate Centre, anchored by the largest Debenhams in Lancashire, and the arrival of top, national high street retailers, there has never been so much choice.

Fishergate has also seen the modernisation of existing stores, such as St George's Shopping Centre, Marks & Spencer and British Home Stores, which have been situated in the city centre for a number of years. These have been complemented by the arrival of new, high fashion retailers George and FCUK who sit along side national favourites such as Boots, Woolworth's, Primark, NEXT, HMV and WH Smith.

A selection of independent boutiques, gift shops, jewellers and salons have located themselves on the quaint side streets situated off Fishergate. Take a walk down any of these attractive streets to see the range of merchandise on display.

Walking up Friargate towards the Flag Market not only provides a view of one of Preston's most magnificent buildings, the Harris Museum & Art Gallery, but is also home to a further range of retailers, café's and bars. Linking the University of Central Lancashire to the heart of the city centre, Friargate blends a strong mix of independent and national retailers, traditional and modern drinking venues and a selection of chic coffee shops in a friendly and bustling atmosphere.

Preston's famous outdoor market takes place every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday throughout the year. Situated under the original Victorian canopy and adjacent to the six-day indoor market, traders sell everything from plants to clothing and fresh produce.

In the heart of this magnificent 'shopping city' is the Flag Market where shoppers may come across a range of activities from street entertainment, a continental market, funfair or even live music.

Within Lancashire, there are no other towns or cities that can match Preston's shopping and leisure offer.
